The Sheriff's Department tows vehicles every day from public roadways after being abandoned or involved in an accident. However, officers are not allowed to tow a vehicle from private property. The wrecker fee usually is borne by the owner of the vehicle - but you should discuss that issue up front with the wrecker operator. The Sheriff's Department can assist you with names and numbers of local wrecker operators.

There are many reasons you might find a need to be fingerprinted, including employment, background checks, security clearances, and even federal firearms licenses. The Sheriff's Office no longer does the old-style inked fingerprints. Printing is now done electronically by an outside agency. Please contact the sheriff's office at 606-678-5145 for instructions.
For many years, local law enforcement kept paper files of arrest records and citations issued by their officers and deputy sheriffs. However, those records are now entirely electronic and are kept by the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) in Frankfort, KY. Local law enforcement, including the Sheriff's Office, can no longer complete criminal records checks commonly used in pre-employment checks and for rental housing requirements.
If you need a background check, you can do so by making a request with the AOC either online or by U.S. Mail.
